Roland has performed across Latin America, the United States, and Europe, and has taught masterclasses internationally. In 1996, Roland received a scholarship to Butler University in Indianapolis, where he studied with Prof. Brett Terrell. He also took lessons at Indiana University with Prof. Petar Jankovic. He later earned his master\u2019s degree at San Diego State University under Maestro Celin Romero of the legendary guitar family \u201cLos Romeros.\u201d During this time, he developed his own technique method called \u201cControl Technique.\u201d <\/p>\n

He also studied orchestral conducting with Prof. Dr. Donald Barra, becoming his assistant. In 2003, Roland founded a symphony orchestra in his hometown of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, which he directed until 2011. Under his leadership, a rediscovered Baroque score by Domenico Zipoli was revived and performed at Bolivia\u2019s International Baroque Festival.<\/p>\n

In 2006, he received the international TOYP Award in the Arts category and was appointed professor of music theory and chamber music at the Evangelical University of Bolivia. His solo work led to invitations to festivals such as San Agustin and Osnabr\u00fcck. Highlights of his career include performances of Joaqu\u00edn Rodrigo\u2019s Concierto de Aranjuez with acclaimed orchestras. <\/p>\n

In 2023, he won the SoundEspressivo Concerto Competition at Carnegie Hall where he performed Concierto de Aranjuez with the New York Chamber Player Orchestra in April 2024.<\/p>\n

Roland Schlieder taught himself to play the guitar using cassette recordings of Pepe Romero and Narciso Yepes at the age of 14.
