Touring extensively across Canada as a solo artist, in duos, and with full bands, Rick has released over 14 albums and appeared as a guest on many more. Steeped in roots traditions, he blends warm-hearted blues, juke-joint folk, and dockside soul into a sound that both honors and stretches its influences. Known for his engaging storytelling, expressive guitar work, and signature gravel-edged vocal style, he connects deeply with audiences wherever he performs.
Rick Fines first gained national attention as a member of the legendary Jackson Delta band and has since released six solo albums, one with the Rick Fines Trio, and a critically acclaimed collaboration with fellow troubadour Suzie Vinnick. His most recent release, Solar Powered Too, was recorded during the pandemic in a small gazebo in the North Kawartha woods, powered entirely by solar energy. Featuring mostly voice and steel-bodied slide guitar, the album captures an intimate, organic sound shaped by solitude and intention.
With 11 originals and a cover of Jesse Winchester’s “That’s What Makes You Strong,” the album reflects themes of resilience, reflection, and human connection. Guest appearances include Alec Fraser, Gary Craig, Roly Platt, Melissa Payne, Jimmy Bowskill, Rob Phillips, Suzie Vinnick, Stacie Tabb, Sherie Marshall, and Samantha Martin.
Beyond performing, Rick is deeply committed to music education, working with students across Canada through programs such as Blues in the Schools and the Ontario Arts Council’s Artists in Education initiative.
