From this dynamic tension, he has developed his own distinctive style, which he calls “HeavyClassic”—a form of concert music that combines virtuosic classical elements with the power and drive of rock, transcending traditional genre boundaries.
His musical training began at an early age: at sixteen, he became a junior student at the University of the Arts in Bremen and later continued his studies in Hamburg and Dresden. During this time, Vief also held a teaching position at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, where he taught from 2007 to 2011.
Malte Vief is a prizewinner and finalist in numerous international competitions, including the European Guitar Award and the Open Strings Competition. He has also received multiple awards at the Indie International Songwriting Contest, where his work was recognized for outstanding achievement in the instrumental category.
As a composer and performer, Vief has released several albums of original music. His work combines contrapuntal structures, baroque-inspired harmonies, memorable melodies, and powerful guitar playing to create a distinctive and emotionally charged sound. His album Kammer III, along with other releases, highlights his versatility across solo, duo, and chamber music settings.
Each year, Malte performs approximately 80 concerts, appearing both as a soloist and with various ensembles such as Malte Vief’s Kammer. He performs on stages ranging from classical concert halls to renowned international festivals. In addition to his performing career, his work also extends into music publishing, with scores and compositions released alongside his recordings.
