The duo met during their studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, where they began their chamber music collaboration under the mentorship of renowned guitarist Petrit Çeku.

Kateryna Movchan is an award-winning Ukrainian flutist. She studied in Kyiv and later at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz, completing her Master’s with distinction in 2024. A prizewinner of several international competitions, she has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Wiener Musikverein, and the Berlin Konzerthaus. Danica Škreblin is a classical guitarist studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. A multiple award-winner, she has won over 20 prizes throughout her education, and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at festivals across central Europe.

The name Dhātu—drawn from the Sanskrit word for “element,” “foundation,” or “constituent” shows the duo’s artistic vision: to explore the essential elements of sound, space, and expression. Inspired by the light installation Dhātu by American artist James Turrell, the duo seeks to create immersive musical experiences that resonate with the listener on a sensory and emotional level.

Connecting the contrasting and complementary characteristics of flute and guitar, Duo Dhātu’s repertoire spans from baroque to contemporary music. Their interpretations are marked by an intuitive interplay shaped by their diverse cultural backgrounds and shared artistic values.
