Born in Lod in 1985, Elkhater began studying piano at the age of six and demonstrated exceptional compositional talent early on, premiering his first piano concerto at the age of sixteen. He studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and is currently completing his PhD in composition at Bar-Ilan University.
Now based in Frankfurt, Germany, Nizar performs internationally as a solo pianist, presenting programs that move fluidly between canonical classical repertoire, improvisation, and his own compositions. His performances are noted for their expressive depth, spontaneity, and the seamless dialogue they create between diverse musical traditions.
As a composer, his works have been performed by leading ensembles and orchestras in international concert halls. His Mediterranean Suite premiered at the Vatican in 2022, performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and received acclaim for its vivid fusion of orchestral writing and intercultural musical language.
In November 2025, his symphonic poem premiered at Carnegie Hall, exploring themes of identity, memory, and cultural dialogue through an expansive contemporary orchestral soundscape.
His recent project, Mundi Rain, reflects his current artistic vision: a cross-cultural musical journey integrating piano performance, improvisation, composition, and contemporary sound design into a deeply personal and immersive concert experience.
