Roland has performed across Latin America, the United States, and Europe, and has taught masterclasses internationally. In 1996, Roland received a scholarship to Butler University in Indianapolis, where he studied with Prof. Brett Terrell. He also took lessons at Indiana University with Prof. Petar Jankovic. He later earned his master’s degree at San Diego State University under Maestro Celin Romero of the legendary guitar family “Los Romeros.” During this time, he developed his own technique method called “Control Technique.”
He also studied orchestral conducting with Prof. Dr. Donald Barra, becoming his assistant. In 2003, Roland founded a symphony orchestra in his hometown of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, which he directed until 2011. Under his leadership, a rediscovered Baroque score by Domenico Zipoli was revived and performed at Bolivia’s International Baroque Festival.
In 2006, he received the international TOYP Award in the Arts category and was appointed professor of music theory and chamber music at the Evangelical University of Bolivia. His solo work led to invitations to festivals such as San Agustin and Osnabrück. Highlights of his career include performances of Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with acclaimed orchestras.
In 2023, he won the SoundEspressivo Concerto Competition at Carnegie Hall where he performed Concierto de Aranjuez with the New York Chamber Player Orchestra in April 2024.
Since 2019, Roland Schlieder has been based in Germany.
