The Austrian guitarist and singer-songwriter wrote her first songs at the age of 11 and accompanied them on the guitar. In order to gain both artistic and technical freedom to accompany her songs according to her own sonic vision, she delved into classical guitar and decided to pursue studies as a concert guitarist.
In 2005, she moved to Vienna to study classical guitar (concert performance and instrumental pedagogy) at the University of Music. As part of her studies, she spent a year in Madrid at the “Real Conservatorio Superior de Música,” where she was able to broaden her musical horizons. But not only that—the human element and the southern European way of life were also great teachers that she still carries unforgotten in her heart and that are reflected in her music.
In 2012/13, Angela Mair completed her studies in Vienna with distinction. Since then, she has released several solo albums featuring both her own compositions and classical/Spanish music, and she is the editor of several sheet-music booklets containing exclusively her own works for solo guitar.
In her programs, Angela Mair unites two worlds: classical guitar playing and singer-songwriting. She sees herself not only as a guitarist, but as a versatile musician who deliberately uses her training to accompany and embellish her own lyrics and songs. In the style of her songs, she also composes instrumental pieces for solo guitar that require classical technique while at the same time opening up a newly invented sound world of their own.
In her live performances, she carefully weaves her programs together, forming a bridge between virtuosic guitar playing, poetic “songs without words,” and thought-provoking lyrics.
Thematically, she explores interpersonal relationships and personal reflections, and seeks to express the beauty in everyday life—the seemingly small details of living—through her art.
